Emission Factor

Emission Factor refers to a constant used to estimate the amount of greenhouse gases (GHGs) released into the atmosphere from various activities. This value reflects the quantity of GHGs—such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), nitrous oxide (N₂O), or other gases with global warming potential—emitted from a single unit of activity. Examples include fuel combustion, product manufacturing, electricity usage, transportation, waste management, or various industrial processes. These factors are typically derived from scientific studies, laboratory tests, or field observations. They may vary depending on the type of activity, the technology used, the fuel composition, and geographic or technical conditions of a given area.
